The ceremony announcing the winners of the prestigious Whisky Magazine Awards for America took place in New York City, on February 27th 2018.
The ceremony was chaired and presented by Rob Allanson (left), World chair of the Whisky Awards, and co-presented by Steve Beal (right), the chair of the American Whisky.
Distillers and whisky-related people from all over the country were gathered for the event.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
The distilleries willing to send their whiskies to compete should ship samples at least four months in advance. For this contest, the last day was October 31 2017. All the samples are reviewed by category through a blind tasting by the expert panel. The panel of judges includes leading journalists, specialist drinks retailers and industry experts. Through the tasting process, some make it to the second round and are called the “category winners”. The shortlisted “category winners” whiskies are tasted blindly against each other by an extended panel, composed of the “round 1” panel and additional members, part of the leading distillers and experts from the whisky industry. The winner is then selected for each category.
