MACALLAN - M - IN AN ICE CUBE!

First of all, what is Macallan M?

Let’s start by the content: this is a marriage of seven old and rare casks from the distillery.

I was lucky enough to have a taste of it, and this beautiful whisky shows a great complexity, creating an intense experience. The nose shows a nice combination of dried fruits, vanilla and spices; the palate is definitely showing the wood, demonstrating a long maturation process, with many spices including light tannins and creating a rich experience which lingers through sweet dark fruits and woodiness.

Let’s continue with the decanter: a beautiful piece of art in the best quality of Lalique crystal shaped with six facets reminding the six pillars of Macallan.

And finish by the glass, which was specifically designed by Lalique to drink Macallan. It is beautifully engraved with golden symbols, and its shape enhances the tasting experience.

Now, what about this ice cube?

At Whisky Live Paris, the Macallan team decided to create an experience instead of having a booth at the exhibition. And what an experience!

In a smoky atmosphere, as if you were in a forest, an early morning, surrounded by a dissipating fog, you discover slowly some large square shapes, hard to distinguish. So you get closer as it is dark, and you start touching the shape: it is cold as ice. And in fact, it is ice! A big rectangular box that contains something in the middle. But it is dark and hard to see, so you get even closer, and you realize that in there is a real bottle of Macallan M…!

Then you turn around this block of ice to make sure this is what you think it is. And yes, it is a beautiful bottle of Macallan M that is… in an ice cube.

There are two other M bottles in the same situation, and in the back of the still smokey room, there is a bar. You can sit on a high stool, and a dressed-up bartender pours you a dram of Macallan M.
