The WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) offers a Level 1 Award in Spirits open to all, which is an introductory course for those interested in the world of spirits in general and those starting a career in the beverage or hospitality industry. The course provides a solid foundation in understanding different spirit categories, production methods, and tasting techniques.
The course leads to a certificate recognized worldwide, and a lapel pin.
The WSET online Spirits level 1 is a five-hour course delivered during one day, from 10am to 12pm EST, and 12:30pm to 3:30pm EST.
The Program:

- Course Content:
The course covers the basic principles of spirit production, including raw materials, fermentation, distillation, and post-distillation. It explores the main spirit categories and their key characteristics:
– whisk(e)y,
– rum,
– tequila,
– vodka,
– cognac, liqueurs.
- Course Content:
Additionally, it addresses storage, bar tools, glassware, and cocktail creation.
Tasting Experience:
Participants will learn the principles of tasting and evaluating spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits®.

- Delivery:
The course is delivered in one day live online with your tutor from 10am to 12pm EST, and 12:30pm to 3:30pm EST.
This session is very interactive, quite educative and you can ask any questions!
- Test:
- The test is administered separately, online. You can take it at your home.
- Various dates are possible and will be communicated as they become available. No worries: you will find a suitable date!
- It is a Multiple choice questions with only one correct answer, very manageable after attending the course.

Your guide: Franck Mounier

Your expert: Franck is a certified WSET spirit educator (all levels) has a distiller degree from IBD (London, UK), and is a Whisky Ambassador tutor (Scotland) and a certified Armagnac Educator (France). He has toured the world on all continents to visit more than 200 distilleries. He travels on a regular basis to spirit experts’ gatherings, and is well connected with the most prestigious actors of the area.
Franck is a judge in national and international Spirit Competitions.
He has entertained or trained more than 9,000 participants to date to his sessions and is recognized for his very effective pedagogical approach while demonstrating his passion.
Franck is operating in the United States, and is based in the New-York and New-Jersey area.
